And last, but not least, was Annabel! Daddy helped her catch this smaller
lake trout. She was so happy she caught a fish too!
It was a great day on the ice! Sun, fun, family and fish!
This is a photo of an inukshuk (a stone landmark built by the Inuit or other people of the Arctic region of North America). We saw many of these inukshuks on our drive to and from Lake Joseph, as the area consists of several Native Indian reserves.
This morning, I made a pancake breakfast, complete with crispy bacon and freshly-squeezed orange juice, with Nuno's help. I thought it would be nice to celebrate today in lieu of tomorrow's Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras). Tomorrow is a work/school day, so it made sense to have our pancakes on family day instead! I refrigerated the leftover batter for the girls, so they can have pancakes again in the morning!
Happy Mardi-Gras everyone! I hope you all enjoy some pancakes on Fat Tuesday! If you're too busy in the morning, you can have them for dinner instead! It'll be fun - breakfast for dinner!

DeleteWow, wish I could eat some of those pancakes, they look wonderful! Boy the ice fishing looks like a lot of work but fun to catch the fish and have something warm to drink. Kinda scary to be on a frozen lake but guess it's pretty thick this time of year. Having to cut the whole to fish through must be no easy task either. Hope those trout are really delicious, you worked hard to get them. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy, the ice was 8 inches thick. We listen to the ice reports and only go out if it's safe. I try not to think about it too much. I'll be cooking the trout sometime this week. I'll let you know how it turns out. xo
DeleteAnd so this is why you all have been on thinning low carb--so nobody would plunge below the ice. It looks pretty scary pulling what must have been that heavy sled, esp with Annabel on top. Those are VERY big trout compared to the ones I've bought at the market. It's a little known fact, but those rocks are not inukshuk, they're an early form of Jenga. I love how you duplicated them in pancakes. It really looks like a magical weekend.

DeleteWhat fun!!!!! Oh my goodness....do you know how much Rod would love to do this? SO MUCH!!!!! I'm going to have to plan some kind of wonderful fishing trip for him. I'm not much for the ice---you are brave souls out there in that cold but I guess worth it with that great catch!!!!

Thank you so much, Joann! If Rod likes to fish, I'm sure he'd love ice fishing. Oh, believe me, we weren't cold. I forgot to mention that inside our tent, Nuno set up a propane heater. I zipped myself inside and was nice and warm! If I was out in the cold, I don't think I could do it for very long! xoxo
